WHAT IS HOMESCHOOLING?

Homeschooling is parent directed teaching where the parent takes full responsibility to educate their children.
The parent (or grandparent) is the primary educator, but can choose to involve others to help with certain subjects.
Homeschooling can take place around the dining room table, in a dedicated room in the house, or anywhere in the home. Some parents find ways to partly teach their children outside the home, like going on field trips or taking lessons (extramural activities).

Qualification needed

Since Homeschool curriculums are written bearing in mind that the parent does not necessarily have a teaching qualification, it litterally “spoon feed” the parent on how and what to teach the child.
However…

When you decide to homeschool:

• You must have the best interest of your child at heart
• Take up full responsibility of your child's education
• Have the mental capability to properly educate your child

Some “Qualifications” obtained along the homeschool journey…

• Patience
• Discipline

HOW TO HOMESCHOOL

There is great variety in how people choose to homeschool.

Fortunately there is no wright or wrong, only a way that works for you and your child, or not. There are literally hundreds of homeschooling curriculums available to “spoon feed” the parent on how to educate their child.
Some people use very structured curriculums, others have a more relaxed approach. Some parents use a combination of different curriculums, some parents take an unschooling approach which is child directed learning. Often parents will use one approach for one child, and another approach for another child. Many families find their approach changes over time as the childrens’ needs or family circumstances changes.
